Hydroxytyrosol 10597-60-1 General Description

Hydroxytyrosol? What is it? Hydroxytyrosol is considered the most powerful antioxidant compound after gallic acid and one of the most powerful antioxidant compounds between phenolic compounds from olive tree.

Hydroxytyrosol is a phenolic phytochemical naturally occurring in extra virgin olive oil, with potential antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cancer preventive activities.

Hydroxytyrosol is a phenolic compound and is amphipathic, meaning it has a lipophilic (fat soluble) end and a hydrophilic (water soluble) end. This gives it the ability to penetrate cell membranes for easy absorption into the body. This simple structure and bioactive power make this compound very cytoprotective. It readily absorbs into cells and is just as easily eliminated, so there is no risk of accumulation.

Once in the cells, this compound gets to work scavenging free radicals and reducing inflammation. The numerous benefits of hydroxytyrosol are one of the reasons for the many health benefits of the Mediterranean Diet.

What is Hydroxytyrosol Raw Material? Is It Powder Form?

Raw Hydroxytyrosol itself in pure form is a colorless, odorless liquid. But in addition to its pure form, it is more commonly available as a beige colored powder, which is a natural byproduct of the waste water of the olive oil industry. In addition to these natural forms, hydroxytyrosol can also be produced synthetically in varying concentrations as either a pure white powder or as a clear liquid, depending on the concentration. Both the natural and synthetic forms of Hydroxytyrosol raw material are used in food stuffs and the cosmetics industry.

Hydroxytyrosol 10597-60-1 Mechanism Of Action

The overall health beneficial action of olive oil phenolic components is well established. Hydroxytyrosol (HXT) is a phenolic compound drawn from the olive tree, due to its molecular structure, its regular consumption has several beneficial effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and as a protector of skin and eyes, etc.

Although the mechanisms of action through which hydroxytyrosol (HXT) exerts its effects have yet to be fully determined, this agent affects the expression of various components of the inflammatory response, possibly through the modulation of the nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kB) pathway. The effects include the modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as the inhibition of interleukin-1alpha (IL-1a), IL-1beta, IL-6, IL-12, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a); increased secretion of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10; inhibition of the production of certain chemokines, such as C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 10 (CXCL10/IP-10), C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2/MCP-1), and macrophage inflammatory protein-1beta (CCL4/MIP-1b); and inhibition of the expression of the enzymes inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS/NOS2) and prostaglandin E2 synthase (PGES), which prevent the production of nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E (PGE2), respectively. In addition, hydroxytyrosol is able to regulate the expression of other genes involved in the regulation of tumor cell proliferation, such as extracellular signal-regulated and cyclin-dependent kinases. Also, hydroxytyrosol scavenges free radicals and prevents oxidative DNA damage. This induces apoptosis and inhibits proliferation in susceptible cancer cells.

Hydroxytyrosol 10597-60-1 Application

Both the natural and synthetic forms of Hydroxytyrosol (HXT) raw material are used in food stuffs and the cosmetics industry, such as dietary and health supplements.

Hydroxytyrosol 10597-60-1 Benefits

What does the hydroxytyrosol do or your body? What are the health benefits and uses of hydroxytyrosol? Hydroxytyrosol powerful benefits is due to its molecular structure, its regular consumption has several beneficial effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and as a protector of skin and eyes, etc. For these reasons, the use of HXT extract is a good strategy for use in meat products to replace synthetics additives.

Super powerful antioxidant

You probably noticed the common thread in all of these benefits is the antioxidant power of hydroxytyrosol. Because we simply cannot avoid free radicals and resulting oxidative stress on our bodies, antioxidants are a necessity. Hydroxytyrosol offers perhaps the most bio-available, potent and effective antioxidant power available. This not only benefits your heart, metabolism, and immune function, but also your eyes, Hydroxytyrosol for skin, and every body system.

Anticancer activity

Hydroxytyrosol has the capacity to inhibit proliferation and promote apoptosis of several tumour cells. Therefore, it has been suggested that hydroxytyrosol may have anticancer effects. The exact mechanism of these effects is not well defined, and research continues in this space.

Anti-inflammatory activity

Research has shown that hydroxytyrosol can reduce the production of cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha) in animal models of inflammation. Animal based research has also shown that hydroxytyrosol may be able to reduce acute inflammation and associated pain.

Antimicrobial activity

In vitro experiments have shown that hydroxytyrosol has antimicrobial properties against infectious respiratory and gastrointestinal pathogens. It is also known that hydroxytyrosol has activity against gram positive and gram-negative bacteria. In general, phenolic compounds have been reported to have wide antimicrobial activity, such as antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal effects. The exact mechanism by which hydroxytyrosol exerts its antimicrobial action is not well known.

Antithrombotic activity

A human study showed that hydroxytyrosol was able to lower serum thromboxane B2 levels, leading to an anti-aggregatory platelet effect. Other research supports this finding, showing that hydroxytyrosol significantly reduces platelet aggregation.

Antiatherogenic capacity and cardioprotective effect

It is known that hydroxytyrosol is a powerful scavenger of free radicals which allows for the reduction in oxidation of low-density-lipoproteins (LDL), potentially reducing the risk of atherosclerosis.

Retino-protective activity

Hydroxytyrosol may play a role in reducing the risk of age-related macular degeneration, however further research is required in this area to determine the exact mechanism and importance of this preliminary research finding.

FAQ of Hydroxytyrosol

Where Can I Get Hydroxytyrosol?

Raw Hydroxytyrosol as the main ingredient of Hydroxytyrosol supplements, the main dietary sources of hydroxytyrosol are olive oils and table olives. The daily intake of hydroxytyrosol from the consumption of olive oils and olives has been calculated based on a mean content of free hydroxytyrosol in these foods.

How many Hydroxytyrosol can I take a day?

The panel considered that 5 mg of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives in olive oil should be consumed daily to reach this effect at physiological level. This amount of hydroxytyrosol must be contained in a maximum of 20 g of oil to be considered within a balanced diet.

Is hydroxytyrosol the most powerful antioxidant?

Hydroxytyrosol is one of the most potent natural antioxidants; it even surpasses the antioxidant capacity of vitamins E and C.

Does all olive oil contain hydroxytyrosol?

Hydroxytyrosol is one of the main components of virgin olive oil, olive mill waste water (OMWW), and olive leaf extract (OLE), which was early identified as the strongest in vitro anti-oxidant potential among all the olive oil polyphenols.

Is oleuropein the same as hydroxytyrosol?

No, hydroxytyrosol is a more potent antioxidant than oleuropein, potentially explaining the lower IC50 of hydroxytyrosol in MIA PaCa-2 cells compared to oleuropein. Changes in the cell cycle are often an early indicator of cellular stress leading to apoptosis.

Is Hydroxytyrosol help weight loss?

Hydroxytyrosol is an extra virgin olive oil phenolic compound which has known protective effects in LDL oxidation and reduces oxidative stress. Olive oil has been associated with enhanced weight loss, and hydroxytyrosol could have a potential role in this.
